At two o'clock in the afternoon on September 16, 2020, the BiCASL laboratory held a welcome conference in the Microelectronics Building. A total of 20 graduate students and 6 doctoral students joined the laboratory this year, and tutors and new students participated in this activity.

The orientation activity was hosted by Miss Yang Hui. First of all, Prof. Wang Guoxing warmly welcomed the newcomers who joined BiCASL and explained BiCASL's "motto": to be a person, to do things, and to do research. Starting from his own experience, Prof. Wang told everyone that daily details can also reflect a person’s attitude towards doing things. As an adult, learning to be a person and doing things is more important than learning. He hopes everyone can be down-to-earth and take every small things seriously and seize the opportunity to show yourself. Afterwards, the freshmen took turns to introduce themselves, from their hometown to their hobbies, and then to the future. In the meantime, the cappella of "The World" brought by Zhang Jingying, the martial arts performance brought by Huang Jiajie, and the backing sing of "Confessional Balloon" brought by Suo Yanxing were even more wonderful, winning everyone's applause and cheering, which pushed the atmosphere to the climax.

After a short break, other tutors also shared their study and work experience with everyone. Dr. Qi Liang used his experience at the University of Macau and Huawei as an example to tell students, especially doctoral students, how to choose their direction after graduation; Dr. Zhao Jian used his academic experience to remind everyone to be on the road to scientific research and find the right goal; Dr. Liu Yan shared his experience of studying and working in Zhejiang University and the United Kingdom, and hoped that the students can be ambitious, pursue more, and explore more; Dr. Li Yongfu also shared with everyone the experience of studying and working in Singapore, encouraging everyone to gain something in scientific research; Dr. Chen Mingyi and Dr. Zhao Yang were unable to be present due to work reasons, and they also extended their welcome to everyone. In the end, the tutors sent the most sincere messages to the new students who joined the BiCASL family.

To join the laboratory, of course you have to understand the rules and regulations of the laboratory. Ms. Yang Hui explained the daily activities of the laboratory, electricity safety, sanitation and other matters, so that the freshmen could be more familiar with the environment; Mr. Xu Wei reminded everyone to use the server and test room in accordance with the regulations, and students are required to learn it first and then, there will be targeted quizzes to help everyone get familiar with the regulations as soon as possible. Due to the impact of the new crown epidemic this year, the laboratory has established a variety of small clubs, including basketball clubs, reading clubs, foreign language film clubs, table tennis clubs, badminton clubs, running clubs, etc. The newcomers can choose to join a small club based on their own interests and hobbies. Hope they can be fully integrated into the BiCASL family under the leadership of teachers and assistants.

The orientation event was successfully held. The harmonious atmosphere helped the instructors to understand the new students more comprehensively and quickly, and also allowed the new students to have a deeper understanding of the laboratory and expect for the life of the laboratory. Finally, wish you all successful in your scientific research, and leave the most beautiful memories in BiCASL!
